Reflecting on a Shakespearean Twist in Modern Discourse

In a time long past, I dabbled in the Bard's verses and ventured abroad, dreaming of a life steeped in the art of words. Today, I bring that love for dramatic flair to a contemporary issue that demands both wit and candor.

I’ve got an announcement—I’ve decided that today I’m Black.

Verily, ’tis a wondrous choice, as facile as donning a new hat.

With but a mere thought, I’ve assumed this noble hue,

Forsooth, how quaintly simple it doth seem to you!

How doth it come to pass, such a whimsical delight,

That one may choose their essence with but a fleeting thought?

Hark! Didst Kamala herself, with naught but a moment’s whim,

Decide to trade her past for this hue, so grim?

Prithee, tell me more of this fanciful guise,

Where identity shifts like the wind, unwise.

Is Blackness a raiment we don at our ease,

Or a potion we sip to appease the fancies of these?

How charmingly absurd is this notion so grand,

That our very selves are but garments to hand.

Nay, dear critics, ‘tis no fleeting attire we wear,

But a steadfast truth that none can impair.

So today, indeed, I am Black, and it is so,

Not a mere choice, nor a passing show.

If this truth doth vex or confound your soul,

Ponder deeper on thine own role.

Forsooth, our existence is no jest to be spurned,

But a reality thou must learn.

If this truth stirs discomfort in thy breast,

Mayhap ‘tis time thou gave it some rest.
